Hi all,

Welcome to this week's installment of another bizzare thing has broken. Got home from a weeks holiday, having left the car fully tarped, to find the battery completely dead and a small amount of water in the battery well. I think my 'breathable' tarp might not be as breathable as it says it is and might be causing condensation to pool there, so i'll buy another.

Looking at the design of the car though, it looks like water will drain naturally from the screen into the battery well. Has anyone else had any issues with this? I'm thinking of drilling a small drainage hole. to take care of the issue.

All best,
J

I've had three and they all do that. Whenever I wash them I have to use a chamois leather to dry the battery box.

When you have an SE there's a bonnet vent right over the battery so it gets a good dousing when it's raining. Can be useful to top up though! ;^)

I don't think it's related to the battery draining, I would recommend a battery isolator for extended parking up - they are on the flea for a couple of quid, e.g. item number 174164078364 I got one like this and it's worked fine. Also helps a bit with security, not that anyone nicks wedges these days.

Hi Colin, the battery box has a slight incline to the front, against the arch of the wheel arch so if I dry the valley between battery and arch, after two or three mops the water goes. It's fibreglass and the battery some form of plastic so I'm not too bothered about a bit of retained water.

Both recesses will collect water...I would not be drilling holes or it might be coming into the car and soaking the carpet!...a bit of spirited driving is what's needed...smile

Agreed. They are empty after some rapid acceleration and deceleration biggrin

Take out the battery give it a good wax polish and the water will run away when braking and cornering nothing there to rust

I cleaned the area good. Then jacked the car so that "level" would be slightly towards the engine and filled the area with epoxy to self level and dry. When the car sits normal, water runs off and drips out the bottom. Not sure if I explained that right. reading it back just doesn't sound right. But i filled the area with epoxy so the water runs off.

I get it! Like self-levelling a bathroom floor - but first tilt your house! Sounds like a reasonable fix.
