Reminds me of the well-advertised contest between Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, and Cadbury's Whole Nut, in the '60s....

The irony here is that Ludwig Van never lived in London unlike many of the great European composers and artists of the time who seemed to face no difficulty with visas before any incarnation of an official European union

As a tribute I wouldn’t really say it’s ironic. As a protest possibly. So it depends on the individuals buying the music

I still don’t think so because people who buy it this week will be showing their enthusiasm for the European Union, not for Beethoven

Well then they should have chosen a piece by Holst or someone more widely European as the anthem. This campaign just displays a trite Europhilia, that is a fondness for the notion rather than everything European.
