Paintball Goggles/Mask

I'm going paintballing this weekend, and I go maybe once or twice a year - so not very often. But the goggles you get given are always a bit grubby and fog up immediately once you get running around.

I'm thinking of getting my own set, but because I'm not exactly an avid paintballer I don't want to spend a fortune, but I do want to get a worthwhile upgrade with regard to less fog over the rentals

I've found this cheap pair with thermal glass... Can anyone comment on this pair? Or recommend a similarly priced pair (£30)

What does the paintball place use? Buy that. Theirs are used 10 times a day in all weathers by allcomers so will not be maintained like you will clean yours after each time.

So my point is the ones they use are really not good. They use a very basic lense that if it's cold and wet (it will be this weekend) you just can't avoid the lense fogging up loads.

Take some Rain-X and apply it to the mask they give you. It might not last all day but should do for a couple of games before you get shot in the nuts by a teammate

The mask you've linked to has a thermal lens( Dual Pane), this will prevent fogging for the most part.
Any mask will fog up if wearing for a long time (marshalling games) .

Comfort is also important, I always used a JT pro flex.

We used to use JT Goggles for customers, but all the marshalls would use either Dye or Empire, little bit more money but worth every penny.

Wed have them on for 7/8 hours a day and they remained confortable

Yeah I understand comfort is important but I may only use this once a year, and its got to be as good as or better than the hire masks?

The JT Pro Flex does look good, but at that price point I wouldn't buy myself one becuase I don't go often enough to make that kind of investment.

If the thermal lense is the key to de fogging, I'd take a lesser, less comfortable mask for 1/3rd of the price, for the kind of use I'm going to be giving it.

In the picture you linked to you can see there is a black line around 5mm wide running around the edge of the lens. Its a layer of foam with adhesive on each side that seperates the two lenses. Check your goggles when you get them that the the foam is properly stuck all around to both lenses it should look like a solid black line, if its pale in areas they probably arent stuck well and will probably steam up. If it looks dodgy pop the lens out and warm it a little and try pressing the foam to get it to stick.

Dont wear tons of clothes while you are playing as you will get hot. If you do get a bit hot and sweaty try and dry your face and hair before you put the goggles back on again otherwise any moisture will fog them when you get hot again. Obviously dry any sweat or moisture from the goggles too. Rain X will not make any difference to thermal lenses.
