crappy boxster lights
Discussion
Ive just put some new front bulbs in my 986 and for the life of me I cant get the headlighst to lock back in place. Give em a tug and they pull straight back out. Any of you guys know a knack on how to lock em in place. Followed instructions in the book but it just wont seat. Im sure the crappy 5mm tool does help. Why make a nut 5mm, who carries a 5mm socket.
moan moan moan.
Plus I need to drive it in a bit, how secure are they when they arent locked.
cheers

I put brighter bulbs in my 996, and found there was a bit of a trick in the cam that you twist to keep the headlights in.
You have to make sure you turn the cam the right way and it stays in place when you pull the lights out, then turn it back with a bit of a 'snap'
I don't kow about driving around without them locked -what if you braked too hard? You would lose the electrical connection and possibly the lights. Might be OK though if you treat it gently.

Getting em out is easy, getting them back in can be a bit of a job.
Line them up, push them back in & as they slot into the housings twist the key supplied to lock them in.
This can take several attempts & sometimes it requires a heavy hand. When I did mine, I had to apply a lot of pressure to get them to click back into place….so much so that I stopped twice as I thought I was going to break something, then just thought “sod it” & went for it. You hear a load “snap” & you think you have broken something, but they go back in place.
