Microsoft Word Help

Somewhat shamefully this one has me stumped - And I thought I was proficient.
I'm a massive fan of the "Slide Master" view in powerpoint as it means I can make a quick pitch deck on the fly without having to grep slides from different presentations.
I'm looking for a similar feature in word - Where I can create one document from a template that has a number of template pages contained within that can be inserted as and when required.
The application: The creation of a "work pack" has a number of different forms contained within - including something that to anyone else would look like a table of contents but is actually called a "document control sheet", something Word is very good at. Right now I have to do one document for each page and it's a pain to keep track of everything. Having everything in one document would make life a lot easier.
Is this possible, or is there another program I can use to do this?
