500k gbp in the bank 39yrs old hates job.....
Discussion
It depends on how you ended up with the money, I suppose. If you were left it by a great aunt and currently earn £7 an hour in Tesco, I'd suggest limiting the amount of coke and hookers. If you earned it over a couple of years, knock yourself out for a while and then go back to the job you hate.

1/10. Total s
t troll effort. Hats off for using emotive language to try and trigger people though. HahaWhat do you hate about the job?
Anything you'd always rather have done?
May be you just aren't happy where you are not so much what you do? Money as they say doesn't buy happiness but it does afford you options. If the money made is from the job you hate are you therefore worried about a drop in salary?
Could you take a sabbatical from your job or career with no significant issues?

yes maybe a year out is the simple answer
I'd sit down and work out what you want out of life and go from there. You could come to any number of conclusions:
1) Continue as you are and then retire early.
2) Drop to 2-3 days per week and plan to focus on something you enjoy on the other days. That thing could be a sport, hobby, or perhaps volunteering somewhere fulfilling.
3) Change jobs to something you enjoy, but pays less. I know of a few jobs that I know I'd be happy in, including some I've actually done, but they don't pay well enough, so instead I choose a job that's ok, doesn't stress me out, but pays well.
4) Continue as you are and use the money to buy a fantastic house, or a few nice cars etc.
5) Invest the money in starting your own business doing something you love. This is the riskiest strategy, but the one with potentially the most rewards.

Impossible to answer based on almost no info.
Do you have a house? What's the job? What are your skills? What do you like doing? How do you feel about setting up a business? etc etc.
Utterly pointless to (for example) suggest buying a yacht and sailing round the world if you hate boats and get seasick in a paddling pool.
