Is this door repairable please?

A colleague's 5 year old opened the rear door of her Mini while she was reversing out of her drive. What do you think about the prospect of mending it?

The damage to the inside of the door will pull out easily. Weld the gash, grind it flat and paint. Adjust the hinge set the gap and you’re done.

Replacement door from eBay would be quicker but if you don’t know your way round a panel gap then your local body shop will fix it for you.

In the 2nd picture does the door close properly?

As long as it's still the same shape that's a relatively easy repair - cut out the holed section, weld in new metal, grind back to clean up, fill and spray.

Yes, it shuts properly.

What'll it cost to repair? She's in Wandsworth.

If the door still closes correctly, this would be my plan:

Duck tape for now ( in silver ) to stop little fingers getting caught.

At this point you have plenty of time to get it fixed, ask around, get a few quotes and see what you want to do. A competent body shop should be able to sort it quite easily, not sure on the cost though.

Not a straight forward easy repair at all. It's dented on crease lines which makes for a difficult job to do.
The labour costs involved in repairing that will far outweigh a straight forward door swop and repaint.

Prices can vary wildly from area to area so she'll need to take it to a few local bodyshops.
Probably better to ask for local recommendations from friends, neighbours & work colleagues.
