Selling a Rolex Daytona without being ripped off
Discussion
I have started the process of trying to sell a Rolex Daytona .I had never used ebay before or had a paypal account. The price I wanted for my watch was £13,900 (Watch finder are advertising exactly the same watch same year same condition for £16,275) not suprisingly I had some immediate interest but being naive I had assumed the costs for selling would be similar to advertising and selling a car. Upon investigation I read ebay cap there fee at £250 although on a fee calculator site it remained at 10% however the paypal fee was in excess of £400. I checked elsewhere Chro24 charge 6.5%. If you try to sell direct to a dealer they want about a £3000 margin. Is there any format that you can advertise on which has a good exposure that does not levy excessive charges?
If you ask in the watch section of this forum you may get some useful advice regarding the best way the sell it.

Advertise it here on PH. Gumtree can also work believe it or not, but you are a bit exposed to a
holes.
Ebay have cheap listing promos as well that may be worth waiting on. Or you could find a friendly dealer that will sell on commission.
If you do decide to use a dealer, try Jonathon at Edinburgh Watch Company.

There is a very good forum in the UK for watch chat, advice, sales etc.

However, note that the sales forum is restricted until you have been a member for some time (can’t remember how long), so if you are wanting a quick sale it’s probably not the answer.https://forum.tz-uk.com/forum.php
I’d advertise here or just accept the margin for a sale to WatchFunder or similar.
I've 'traded watches with Watchfinder, was pretty good experience. Think trading works as they take a cut on margin on the watches you're buying.
For an outright sale I used Dom Hackett - great guy and easy transaction
For something like your watch I'd only sell to people I can physically see - ie in a shop/premises; may make a bit less money but you actually get the money.

Try Dom Hackett - see the Watch sub forum for his details. Many members report he is very good to deal with.
Just remember you are going to get trade buy price, not trade sale price. I guess you aren't offering a year's warranty for instance?
Sold Dom my Daytona last week. Just remember you are going to get trade buy price, not trade sale price. I guess you aren't offering a year's warranty for instance?
Very good to deal with.
I have been following this thread:

A well known Australian watch trader sold a fake and gave the buyer the run around.
As to your Daytona, Dom is very well known and trustworthy - I would also recommend these people:

I have done a couple of high value transactions and the guy is 100% trustworthy. He also pitches his prices very competitively too - worth looking at.
