Barclays offer a 'travel pack' which includes travel insurance and breakdown cover. How does this work? Do you get a membership card with reference number on it as with RAC? Or do you dial a number and give your bank details to confirm your membership?

Has anyone actually used this after a breakdown?

You call the company up and tell them you are with such a bank.
I’ve had a motorbike recovered in the past and also my Mondeo too.
My wife works for a bank so we only pay like £8 a month on the joint account.
Phones, travel insurance and breakdown covered.

Anyone know how much they charge for ordinary account holders?

Travel pack (travel insurance and car breakdown) is £12.50 a month.

My joint account with Nationwide gives travel insurance, breakdown, gadget cover for £13. Used the breakdown once when stranded on the A5. No issues at all.

Same. If I remember correctly, I called Nationwide and they do whatever they have to do at their end. Was a couple of years back now.

I have this with First Direct - Travel, Breakdown (UK and Europe) and mobile phone cover.

I used the mobile phone cover - totally painless - and the phone I got back looked brand new (probably was).

I've also used the breakdown cover - it's with the RAC - and it works just the same as being an RAC member.

I have cover with my bank, it is a better service than I received from the AA, and cheaper as well.

We have Phone Insurance, AA Breakdown and Travel Insurance with a Lloyds Platinum Account.

Have claimed easily and hassle free on all of them.

Have got cover with Nationwide and can't fault it, phone up and they sort you out and will put you in contact with whoever is recovering the car.

Has helped me out twice (Z4 failed water pump, RS cut out and wouldn't start) recovering a car to a garage and providing a courtesy car (48hr I believe)

The cover you get with RBS Black account is also excellent - I used it the other day and the fellow who "rescued" me told me that it includes all possible elements of the cover you can get with the AA.

Just be careful with some of these bank account package breakdown cover deals - sometimes they are a very basic level of cover, such as no home start or only 10 miles free tow etc.

I have Green Flag breakdown cover with RBS

Used to work for a subsidiary of RBS Group and had the account benefits free of charge. After redundancy in late 2017, I expected the charge to kick in but no one has ever contacted me and there is no charge on account to date so I’m not going to raise the subject... thumbup

Used it once to date- Green Flag app is excellent and gave the location to the operator via GPS and picked up by local recovery truck within 1 hour and taken to preferred garage (snapped timing belt)

Yeah I have this with Natwest, and use it far more frequently than I wish I had to.

But its very simple, there is a phone number I call and that puts me through to an automated thing saying something like "Press 1 for Breakdown cover, 2 for Travel Insurance..." and after that I go through to Green Flag, they just check the details on my name and address, I presume they can tell when they answer the call that it has been routed to them via Natwest or whoever. And then an hour later, someone comes to my rescue.

No need to carry a card with me I just have the number saved in my phone.

I've had the cover for years from the bank. I really cant fault it at all. The same with the home emergency cover when the front door lock broke, leaving us with no means of getting in the house. A short wait for a locksmith and we got in and got a replacement door lock.

The insurance cover was farcical when i broke a camera lense. They demanded proof of ownership and told me to report the damage to the police. It took a bit of sorting when i eventually got through to the right person.

Generally id recommend this extra cover. Especially the AA bit.

Nationwide.

I had to use the package twice last year.

Once for breakdown recovery from very close to Goodwood circuit to back home (90 miles);
excellent service. You have a dedicated phone number to call.

I also had to make a modest claim on the travel insurance, again excellent service -
totally hassle free.
