Audi B5 S4 Avant
Discussion
Has anyone owned one of these? My budget of £10k does not get me into an RS4 but these came up on my search for unusual swift ish cars. Something like this, they seem to hold value well. Looking for something to commute and occiaisonal weekend blat which wont loose too much money in 12 months time. Or am I entering into a world of potential bork.

I had one for a few years. Loved it.
People seem to say that sooner or later the turbos will let go, so budget to replace - or upgrade to K04s
.
Do you spend about the same money with one that has been fettled already or go for the more original unmodified car with full main dealer AH.People seem to say that sooner or later the turbos will let go, so budget to replace - or upgrade to K04s

Yup had one too
First foray into fast Audi's. Only sold my B5 because at 16 years old I couldn't get Euro Cover for trips to the South of France (now have a B8 S4).
Mine was only chipped (stage 1 - 330 bhp), and the turbos were beginning to get a bit smokey, but still had life in them.
If anything the B5 had more character than my B8 - and I was lucky with timing - paid £3k, sold for £5k after 4 years of use an only general servicing.
If you're really interested head over to www.Audisrs.com - that's where the B5 guys used to hang out

Of those two listings, different interior specs but similar mileage, price and condition, personally I'd go for the K04'd one, although I prefer the standard wheels of the blue one.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-S4-2-7-K04-Avant-E...
I found the standard seats to be nice and comfortable so Recaros not a must-have IMO.
The grey one has been worked on by MRC, so that's reassuring

So they appear to be rising in value?
Seriously I would get over to rs246.com .
Weak point are turbos, inlet manifold rattling, intercoolers corroding and there was a recall on the front suspension as the ball joint could wear and worst-case come apart.
Still low 20's mpg and tyres every 10,000 miles.
