Pretty soon after Le Mans the Chimaera is due it's next service, it's going up to Austec who recommend Valvoline as apposed to Mobil 1.
I'm pretty much open to guidance as the RV8 shouldn't really run oil such as M1 as a rule, the 500 uses more oil than my old 400 which is I am told to be expected.

What do you use?

Personally, I use Mobil 1 Motorsport 10W50 Synthetic. Normal Mobil 1 0W40 is way too thin for the RV8, IMHO.

To be honest, though, modern oils are so good that for road use I'd be happy with any synthetic or semi-synthetic oils of a reputable brand and the correct viscosity.

Hi Corin, I use Mobil 1 Motorsport 10w 50 as well (which is generally recognised to be a top notch oil for the Rover, tho' a bit pricey), but there a huge amount on this topic on the forum, just look at opeioilmans contributions for instance, there's just about anything you could possibly want to know really.

After much consideration of the many posts already on this subject, I use Mobil 1 Motorsport Formula 15w50 in my Griffith. I even found it in my local Halfords. But I also understand Silkolene Pro S or R is equally as good along with Motul V300.

In the same dilemma Corin. Popped round to speak to those knowledgeable chaps (Guy & Simon) at Opie Oils. They recommend I use a Silkolene ester based oil. My 5ltr seems to rid itself a fair bit of oil (it could be the Sump Fairy) and they reckon Silkolene should show some improvement over my Mobil 1. Gonna be giving it a try soon. Give Opies a call, they know their slippery stuff.

I use Silkolene Pro S 10W/50. Previously used M1 15W/50 which is good but I think the Pro S is better. Attended trackdays on succesive w/ends in almost identical weather conditions. The M1 thinned to the point where the tappets got noisy (at least I think that's what it was - it's happened a few times when really hot) whereas no problem with the Silkolene the next week.

Edited to add: I doubt Silkolene will be available from the dealer and unless you're doing trackdays regularly, I don't suppose it will make much difference. If they use Valvoline then I guess it must be pretty good.
