My son goes through these at a crazy rate.

Once again this morning the audio cable has broken on his Turtle Beach recon 70x - we only got him this one at Christmas so it has barely last longer than a month this time.

He went through 2 last year. Before that we were buying an audio cable for his beats headset every couple of months - these where about 15 pound each so we thought that we might as well buy headsets instead.

Can't think what he is doing to them to make them break so frequently but if anyone can recommend a reasonably priced military grade headset and cable then I would be very grateful.

Take it back, it should last longer than that!

I think it is just the way he uses them - he is really clumsy and forgetful and probably drops them, treads on them etc. And the fuss involved in sending back a £24 headset? I would pay 24 pound not to have to deal with that

If there was a super durable £100-150 headset that was guaranteed to last about 2 years I would buy it.

Actually it seems like most of the previous issues were down to audio cable and connection so maybe wireless is the way to go?

If its the cable getting cut, wireless is definitely better. Son has one,its confusing when he is wandering about talking to mates on the PS4

Turtle Beach can be somewhat fragile but by the sounds of things, your son is just being rough with them. I've got a TB set which I don't use these days but they still work and they're probably 7 or 8 years old now and they still work.

Chair rolling over a dangling cable when playing?

Otherwise wireless headset.

If PC, certain wireless headsets do not work with certain games, wired is the best way to go - or so i found at least.

I stopped buying ours online because of the hassle of returns, got the last lot from game and six months in alls ok. I just get the wired ones for about £25.

My son’s been through a couple of the cheaper Turtle Beach ones which became unusable after a few months. For the last year he’s been using an Astro A20 and it’s still going strong despite him being not particularly careful with it (I’ve given up telling him!). Anyway, it seems decent enough and Argos and Amazon have them for £100 at the moment.

Just accept he will keep destroying them until he has to buy them with his own money. You buy him a £100 set, it will just hurt your wallet more when he breaks those.

PC or console?

Got a couple of these for my ham fisted children: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GF73ULM/ref....

Sound and mic are better than expected for the price and seem to be lasting well.

Buy him replacement headset, then tell him if that one breaks he'll have to wait until his birthday/Christmas for a new one.

I've been using a HyperX Cloud headset since 2014.

I had an issue with the microphone last year, raised a support case and they sent out a free replacement mic, was fully expecting to be told to bugger off given the time scale. Then the 'leather' from the pads was starting to peel off so I ordered a replacement set of pads... still going strong and great sound. Think they were only about £60 at the time too.

Wireless. I'd bet there's a cable trailing over the floor that gets trodden on or chair wheels rolled over.

PCGamer recommends Corsair HS70 (£70 at Amazon), or Steelseries Arctis 7 (£115).

This is what you want.

My 13 year old son has this, he drops it and leaves it lying around and its still going after 3 years.

The sound quality is really good too, plus as an added bonus you can use it on PC as well!

Think I've had my Sharkoons for a decade and they're still in excellent condition, but then i always took care of them.

Wireless is probably the way to go if they're gonna be abused.

It's an Xbox one X he has so not sure if that makes a difference

He tends to get a lot of money for his birthday, amazon gift cards etc so it might be worth me suggesting he gets a really good wireless set and hope it lasts. He is getting into Twitch streaming so he will probably need an upgrade.
