If you've a digital camera you can easily make one of those panoramic shots yourself.

a. take overlapping photos from a single point (from a tripod works well).
b. put photos into their own folder
c. go to this site :

www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html

and download their fantastic (and free) Autostitch program.

d. run program.

That's it. The program automatically stitches the individual photos together into a huge composite - no user intervention required. Strongly recommended.

You'd find it very nearly impossible to do that shot of the bridge by stitching the photos together.

Photostitching only really works when there is little or no perspective.

I beg to differ. I've produced similar (ok - uglier and less ambitious, but similar nonetheless!) 180 degree panoramas myself using Autostitch. It uses a spherical projection to stitch the photos - you don't have to do it manually. Perspective doesn't present a real problem if you keep the camera in a single spot - hence the suggestion for tripod mounting. Try it yourself - after all, it's free.
