MK1 VRS Estate - Don't Call It A Shed!
Discussion
After selling my S1 around 18 months ago due to lack of use, I've been embracing shed driving.
I bought a Fiat Panda for £400, got over 12 months out of it before it started to make some weird noises.
So that got swapped for a Berlingo van, I thought it would get me another 12 months of carefree motoring. I lasted 2 months with it and just couldn't get on with it at all.
I did what anyone would do, open PH classifieds, cars under £1000, filter by distance.
As chance would have it, the closest car to me was a Octavia VRS estate.
After a viewing and short drive, it was obvious it was a good example. The seller is a PH member I believe, so hopefully he will see this.
He had owned the car for 11 years, over the last couple he had replaced all the suspension and brakes, lots of history with it.
Original turbo, original clutch, original exhaust. Not been messed with.
I had to have it.
Pic here the day I collectdd:

I've had it a week now and nothing bad to report. The climatronic air conditioning works, gets nice and warm. The 20v turbo engine pulls well. It genuinely all feels so tight and smooth, you'd never know it was 17 years old.
I gave it a good wash today, going to attack the interior this week.
New plates have been ordered to tidy it up.
Tow bar going to come off as I've no use for it.
I said I wasn't going to modify it, but have been reading that these engines respond well to a panel filter, release a bit more turbo noise.
Pics today after a quick clean:

That looks really good for £1k! One little thing, replacing the front numberplate would make a world of difference I reckon.
Are these the BAM engined jobs?
New plates on this week, I agree they look a bit tatty. I didn't realise how hard it is to get plates made up now, v5 and 18 forms of ID.... Are these the BAM engined jobs?
I believe its the AUQ engine from a quick look, 180bhp.
Pulls very well, already had someone offering me 225 injectors and uprated downpipe. Must resist!
And, last point, was less than £1k after negotiation.

Great car for the money. Looks really good in estate form and in black with that interior.
Sounds like you couldn't have bought a better one too given its history.. What's the mileage?

Dealer history for a long time, then local work.
Honestly, so impressed with it.
Put 2 dogs in the boot today and took it up Beacon Fell, not a rattle or squeak.
These make great sheds, should you ever consider considering it
And if you do... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Back on topic - new plates will look great, and to avoid V5 stuff etc etc just go on eBay - road legal ones made up no questions asked. Also, when I buy a new car I always really enjoy giving it a deep clean (especially the interior) to make you feel better but also to learn about all the dents, marks and scratches on it

Small updates.
I finally found time to give it a deep clean today. Carpets treated and scrubbed (why the hell does it have white carpets?), seats cleaned.
Very happy with the result, it's a good interior.

Also, new plates on, really needed them.

Car has been great to use, but it seems over the last week or so it's developed a leak in the exhaust. Sounds like the downpipe, I'm going to get it up on my truck this week so I can see the underneath and judge it from there.
