ST220 buying tips/help

Hi guys, I'm new to pistonheads so any help appreciated
I am also currently looking for a new motor..... specifically mondeo ST220, however i am not the most car / tech savvy so need some help.
After doing a few weeks searching, it appears most available st220s are going in the region of 2500 -5000, depending on milage, service history and general tidyness of car and engine.
I have seen a St220 with a garage, up for £1995 with 73k on the clock..... 5 years service history.. .. and because of the age no warranty. They say it came as part ex, not their usual car so just looking looking to get rid, but refuse to budge on price.
If this a flat out too good to be true, or is it a matter of viewing the car with a mechanic, and seeing if the garage is hiding anything that may indicate why price so low?
I brought a my last focus with 64k on clock for £450 in good condition, so I know bargains can be found....... however, I know the V6 duratec engine has more complications.
Any help appreciated as I'm a bit out of my depth.

Brilliant cars, as with any car of the age rust can be a big factor on them so check closely underneath.
The engines were and are generally very reliable.
Check road tax as later models are.signifcantly higher tax bands than the early ones.
If.you are unsure get a friendly mechanic to look it over but bare in mind at the end of the day you will be looking at 15-18 year.old cars, no garage is going to want to warranty it. Sure there is the sale of goods act but if it were me I'd be buying it with a view that any issues you are going to have to cover yourself.
I am.a big fan of them myself and it is a shame I never owned one.

I am sold on them already, and having seen many selling with upwards of 150k on clock, I'm encouraged it will last, as you say...... I will and do expect to put money into it. At 17 years old that's only expected! The engines were and are generally very reliable.

I've heard similar feedback regarding handling...... not the first inconsistent top gear review tbh.
The brakes I'd probably change, other than that, I'm after a bit of fun and small project for a small investment..... think this ticks most boxes providing the car I go for doesnt need much engine work done

To expand I had decent pads and discs and it couldn't stop from triple figures in one go, literally they'd fade by about 50mph.
I was 19 at the time so drove it too fast I'm sure but I remember coming to a stop about a metre from another car, with my foot to the floor sweating profusely.

New standard pads on OEM discs. Sounds like a close call!
I might have had a bad one but it happened a number of times and they weren't being abused.
A brake upgrade, suspension refresh and decent tyres and it will be quite capable I'm sure.
The engine is very muted, I would recommend a decent cold air intake for it to sound like a V6.
I had the saloon with black recaro leather. Look infinitely better than the hatch imo but harder to find.

Surprised by that as my chipped TDCI lasted a number of 125mph (indicated) to 0mph stops at Brunters before the fluid boiled and they faded. That was on OEM discs and pads - never got to try out the uprated EBC ones there, but never managed to make them fade on the road.I was 19 at the time so drove it too fast I'm sure but I remember coming to a stop about a metre from another car, with my foot to the floor sweating profusely.
