I am looking at changing my wife’s car for a 2015/16 Mercedes A Class (petrol auto with a decent spec). There are a couple of A160 2016 Executive editions up for sale around £14K. We can buy now or wait a bit longer (a month or so). With the reg change in March, are used prices likely to drop across the board at the end of this month ? Will the same age and spec car be any cheaper in a month, driven by the reg change, or does it not have any real impact on current stock ? I am not bothered by the odd £100 discount here or there but if waiting a month saves £500, it is money in my pocket. Any advice ? Thanks.

P.S. This is NOT a "What Car" thread wink It's her car and her choice, and we have looked at PCP etc. That's just not for us at this point in time.

Probably not because of the reg change per se. But dealers will be awash with P/ex used stock traded in for the new reg cars. Combine that with an end of Q1 push to meet sales targets might add up to dealers being more motivated to shift their stock.

Set up a enqury on specific spec you want on News Now such as this

https://www.newsnow.co.uk/classifieds/cars-vans-fo...model_year_from=2015&motoringmodel_year_to=2016&nif=true

This covers a lot of ads for cars for sales( although doesn't seem to cover Autotrader.

Set up an alert will then get e-mails of new cars coming to market and price reductions, The one above is for A160 petrol Autos 2015/16 but you can alter to make more or less specific-not the easiest of sites to use.

Also found it useful when it comes to negotiating a deal as can often find a similar spec car at lower price

Prices don't drop much on reg changes but as someone above said the dealers may have some nice PX's one thing to consider I understand it's your OH's choice but show her the Q30 (these share the same engines & interior hardware with the A Class although the Infiniti has the nicer interior) you may well find that once she sits in one that'll be what she's buying.

Also you'll get a nice one with a Manufacturer's warranty & the 2.0T engine from the A250 which may come in handy when you want to borrow it wink

Thanks. That's a useful tool. Prices look very uniform for the same spec, so I think we have a clear idea of what price to aim for. Assuming there's a small surge in trade-ins this month, I think it is worth hanging on to see what else turns up.

Re News Now been found it very useful.
Daughter in law after a 2018 120d - found one she liked after test drive but another garage had a similar spec model for about £1k less, showed this to selling dealer. He reluctant to budge on price but what he did do was to show us a HPI report which showed each time that particular vehicle had been HPI'd which gave an indication of possible buyers. It had been on sale since Oct last year and had 3 or 4 recent HPI's carried out on it in last 4 weeks- but a sale not achieved from any of them, Its still for sale and garage had put price up! Certainly was enough to put off going to view the vehicle. Couldn't find another similar spec car cheaper so bought the test drive one.

Once you've set up email alert will get daily updates on price reductions and new cars being advertised. just remember it doesn't include cars on Autotader for some reason (but does include Pistonhead adverts)
