From accountancy to FA?
Discussion
Hi all, struggling to find meaningful career advice and know there are a few wealth managers/financial advisors on here so hope there may be some knowledge. Apologies for length.
I’m currently a Finance Business Partner (a commercial accountant that can talk to non-finance people basically) for an Insurance company. I spent a good few years doing a finance & accounting degree and a CIMA, and then onto doing a cert a CII in insurance. Thing is, I absolutely hate what I do and would much rather use my skill set to help others make good financial decisions and planning than making my directors bonuses bigger year on year. It also appears that within insurance, it’s hard to progress further than I am as I’m not a financial accountant.
So, long story short, being on the south coast, is there a pathway into financial advisory/wealth management for management accountants? Is it a case of sitting the level 4 CII diploma and then applying for FA roles or will I have to start right back at the beginning again? Is it even a viable switch over?
Thanks in advance, not meaning for the above to be flippant, just trying to get to the crux a bit faster.
