So we over in Ireland have been looking on with a kind of macabre curiosity at the slow car crash that was/is/will be? Brexit. Well OK if they voted for it I suppose that is their right and I wish them well in the future.

But this presents the ideal opportunity for us over here (in Ireland) to snap up all the car bargains that are bound to pop up as the UK slowly declines economically and all the nice juicy UK cars become too expensive to be owned or run by the natives themselves.

We better be quick though as I am sure people in other countries are thinking the same!

So what are the best cars to be looking at - I am hoping to make a purchase before Brexit kicks in proper - or perhaps should I wait and hover vulture like over what's left for any nice pickings?

You'll be waiting a long time, the only thing you may find is that non ULEZ compliant cars come on the market at a slightly cheaper price but in reality the market is pretty stable.

And what if it goes the other way?
1. Most of the uncertainty is over, economic confidence and growth and spending may increase, so prices could rise
2. Imported cars could end up with tariffs on them, so prices could rise, pushing up used car prices

If prices fall, it won't be because of Brexit, it'll be because of the tree hugging evangelists spouting ill informed crap about the wonder of electric cars, while petrol and diesel car drivers, especially SUV drivers, are vilified on a level akin to child molesters, are banned from entering towns, and taxed until their eyes bleed. That's what is likely to cause car values to tumble

I wouldn't hold your breath or make a purchsing decision on what bargains are to be had.

I think the best time to buy because of the Brexit FU was last summer when very little was moving. What we are seeing now is just the usual winter malay.

The UK economy can be incredibly resilient and we would need to see other contributing factors to see things get worse than they have been.

It's interesting to hear how negative many EU members see how things will move forward, particularly those from countries which have been propped up by EU contributors like the UK.

There's rough times ahead and it would have been better not to chart this course but there will be positives too.

In 10 years, the UK will be prospering and trading with Europe and the rest of the world on terms that have been negotiated but any bargains in the meantime will be due to usual economic FUs.

Haha good one!

I'm assuming this thread is a joke yes??

Reckon you could bag a bargain McLaren or if it's cheap enough maybe even the entire company!

Far more chance of that than Borris not getting a free trade deal, it would not surprise me if diesels and SUVs get targeted for vandalism by the extinction rebellion types over the next 10 years

I pretty much agree with this viewpoint (I'm from Ireland btw!)
