Not an accountant, but as I understand it from this coming tax year beginning in April, BiK for electric cars (with a certain minimum range - 150 miles I think) will be zero, and then rising slowly annually from there. If you're going to use the pickup truck for personal use, the taxable benefit is around £4k inc private fuel (so you pay lower rate or higher rate tax on that).

Both pretty cheap to put through the company. I've had a pickup and now a Tesla. There is no comparison in terms of which is the nicer to drive. Pickups are agricultural, and the Tesla is not.

Thanks JB. I've already got a pick-up - which I'm keeping for now - 100% used for the business, but looking to either add an additional (pick-up), and pay the BIK on that, or switch to an electric car. Was just reading about Teslas (Model 3) and trying to understand the servicing etc of it - being in Nottingham I'm miles away from the nearest Tesla service centre - Manchester.

Also thinking about the Mini Electric. Need to do some reading. I also guess these EVs have all got waiting lists against them now with the new regs etc... ideally want it before end-March scratchchin

I've got a Model 3 Performance. Love it - amazing car. They don't need servicing in the traditional sense. There's no service schedule - you just need to get items dealt with as and when they come up. Theoretically, you could go a few years without it needing attention.

Take a look at the new model Audi E-Tron (50 Quattro Technik) too - range 183 miles I think, but they're usefully cheaper (to lease) then the Model 3 presently. Certainly worth looking and delivery is 13-16 weeks, but there may be something around sooner.

Also, depending upon whether you are a company, sole trader or partnership, if you buy/PCP, you may be able to write 100% of the cost off as Capital Allowances in year 1, reducing your tax bill.

How many miles will you be doing? I have recently swapped from company car to company van (Ford Ranger) and having to stick to commercial van speed limits can be soul destroying...

Thanks again JB. Just learnt Nottingham is getting a Tesla service centre this year smile

re mileage - approx 12-15k/pa. Very rarely do over 80miles in one day.

The best ones (not too pricey but with big ranges) do have long waiting lists but the pricier ones less so. Look on the EV section and they'll tell you there.
