Mondeo MkIV 2.5T rivals?

Hello All,
Despite extensive man maths I cannot make the answer to my particular equation = Lexus LS430.

Sadly I must consider more practical alternatives for family duties. My leading candidate was an RX400H but the spate of cat thefts has put me off for now at least.

My next favourite is a Mondeo 2.5T. However they are hard to find. My unicorn would be an estate.

I am racking my brains to think of any obvious PETROL hatchback/Estate rivals to this car that I like. I am not really a fan of Octavia VRs, Insignias and we already have a 330d touring so fancy something other than a 330i/530i touring.

Have I missed anything obvious?

If anyone has a Mondeo 2.5T I would like to hear your ownership thoughts, particularly as they age.

It depends on your budget because then we can give you some other options but the 2.5T Mondeo is a very good car.

Thanks as always ZX10. You put a lot of effort into advising people on here, which I am sure is appreciated.

I had spotted, but don't really like that particular one. It reminds me of a hearse and 5+ owners is a bit off-putting.

<=£4k budget. That is what I allocated for the LS430 that I don't seem to be able to get into my life.

I guess the thing I am interested to know about 2.5T's is do they remain reliable without shovelling money at them as they age. Are they generally robust. I know there is a bit of a thing with cylinder liners, but am I correct this affects modified ones? The engine seems in a relatively low state of tune for a 2.5Turbo so hope a standard one, being relatively unstressed, would be robust.

Would ideally like to avoid £570 tax. Fuel costs not too worried about. No more diesels - that is the only red line.

The cylinder liner issues was mainly on modified cars, they're very robust you'll see lots with big miles on your budget finding one is the hard part, also 5 owners isn't a lot for a car of that age.
