Golf TDI part ID pls

Hi, I'm no mechanic and was simply checking my oil when I saw a black plastic cover ( about the size and shape of a pint glass ) was loose at the front of my engine, it goes to the grill and looks like an air intake and when I looked inside it seems it might be missing a filter, can someone please advise. Cheers

It will probably be just the air scoop that directs the air from the grill into the air box. There is no filter in that part, the filter is inside the air box.
