On two successive mornings I've caught the missus simultaneously reading the Daily Mail whilst listening to the Jeremy Vine show.
Is she more likely to randomly explode or spontaneously combust?

Ignorovirus or Winter Arrogance Bug can be pretty unpleasant. After a 72 hour incubation period, the bile (hyper patriotism, hysteria over weather events etc.) is the worst part. Antidote is reading the Guardian three times a day for balance until the condition eases, according to NHS Direct biggrin

I wouldn’t worry too much.

My mother has read the Daily Mail for probably the best part of 50 years.

Apart from an irrational hatred of Meghan Markle, she seems generally unaffected.

Being retired means morning is the word used to describe the period between waking and lunch.

Yes. He basically does his radio show on Channel 5 two hours before starting on the wireless.

She can't read the DM and watch the idiot box at the same time, so simply listens to the TV, makes sense to me.

See OP wink

Family member reads it so I thought I would take a look online.

A few of the stories are clearly written so people are outraged but the fact is the story did happen and probably would not get reported elsewhere.

Some of the reporters are rubbish at grammer and thats coming from someone who is dyslexic.

If a story is run about you its really important that the headline tells everyone how much your house is worth, even if its totally unrelated.

Not sure why they are obsessed and I mean obsessed with the royal family, theres about 5 reports on them each day. I dont mind the royals but thats OTT.

They seem to keep plugging lower that z list celebs even if they wear a bikini on a beach for the 289 time. A bikini on a beach shock horror - just Ignore them they will go away noone wants to see them.

Sticks.

For a while it was free with Tesco deliveries. I'd refuse it. To be fair, the Guardian can come out with some equally outrageous rubbish although with less bile.

My dear Mother started to read The Express about 15 years ago, it started innocently enough, a free hit on a flight or maybe pick it up for some free seeds for the Garden, but she was soon hooked.

She always seemed a rational person, but now she says things like:

It's going to Snow next week for a whole month, a day later - HEATWAVE!

You can't trust them Muslims - Her Grandfather was a Immigrant from Jordan.

Bloody freeloading immigrants - She, along with my Step-Dad spent nearly 20 years living in Bahrain so he could earn piles of cash and pay no tax. Also, see above.

They're trying to ban Christmas! - even though, when she lived in a Middle-Eastern Country, they were as mad for Christmas as we are here, and she knows how important Jesus is in the Muslim faith.

Joking aside, people who read the Mail / Express either think "this is clearly nonsense" and stop, or start to believe it.

Or maybe the Women in my family are a bit thick, my Grandmother who was a lovely mixed-race Lady once voted for the BNP in a local election because she didn't like the Pakistani family who had bought their old house 20 years previously. It just dawned on her one day the Mother of the family she sold her house two 2 decades previous gave her a funny look and Nick Griffin's outfit got a vote from someone they'd either deport or worse given the chance.
