Unduly lenient?

Has anyone got the judge's sentencing remarks for this?

Hope someone with the correct knowledge helps you because anything that puts this sick individual away for longer would be for the good of society

Surely that's category 1 with aggravating factors too. I'd have expected a sentence towards the maximum for that.

I don't know for fact they aren't being treated as category one offences, I'm just assuming from the sentencing that he wouldn't mitigate a starting point of 12 years down to 10.

Guideline says that the range for Category 2 is 5-9 years, so given the sentence of 10 years maybe it is being treated as Category 1. But you're right that from the report it doesn't seem obvious what mitigation there might be to bring the sentence down from 12 years...

Crikey. Utterly, utterly appalling crimes. Clearly he's a very sick individual indeed.

From a complete layman's viewpoint it certainly begs the question of what he'd have to have done for these offences to be any more serious?

Good point. I know he doesn't have previous convictions as one factor.

I don't know how sentences stack but 2 x S.18 on immobile infants and an ABH is a fair bit of offending.

The chap who hit the police officer with the machete got 16 years (quite rightly).

Will see if the sentencing remarks become available. It may well be an accurate sentence (based on the guidelines). Judges tend to know what they are doing.

I’m very much of a “rehabilitate and reform” mindset, but there are some people who clearly should be in prison for as long as possible, either due to what they did and / or the risk they pose.

I’m not convinced him ever getting out is going to be acceptable.

I don’t think he needs to stay in prison for life as a punishment. I think he needs to as he obviously has a mental condition or impairment that is unlikely to be treated with rehabilitation.

I’m surprised this wasn’t a bigger story.

10 years, out in 5? Find the law confusing when someone taking a piss gets 2 weeks (harsh) yet when an infant dies and/or is battered the sentence seems so lenient.
