Day 1 - https://www.crash.net/motogp/results/935762/1/sepa...

Ps. Quartararo has a full factory bike this year, Morbidelli doesn't.

Yamaha are looking to make a fiercely competitive start to the year then. Midfield looks to have closed up again, 1.8s covering the field. Are the Espargaro brothers under-rated? They always seem to make a decent fist of things compared to their teammates.

Cant see past 93 for another C'ship tbh...

Mav may take a win or two if they can make the new rubber last

Fabio needs to start taking wins and I think he will.....

Cal basically only fit HRC rider and has enough for 3 riders to test apparently.....

New 'Prilla is looking good, so Aleix is happy...

Middle ground could be hard fought this year, but I believe podiums will usual suspects....

Which makes sense for Yamaha as a lot of info from his (Fabio's) side last year wouldn't have been of much direct use to the factory - his original chassis last year was not a year old one, or even a two year old one....

Why do satellite teams do this at all? You can't be saving much money by running one of last year's prototype racing machines surely, as development is where the cost is?

Factory cost saving usually. Sateliites nearly always use last years stuff.,

Final day times, Lorenzo has been out - https://www.crash.net/motogp/results/935891/1/sepa...

Ps. Quartararo and Morbibelli were both on 2019 bikes on day one (so that's why they were close) 2020 bike for FQ day 2 and 3.

I'd have thought with restricted testing the usefulness of increased feedback and experimental part trial options would outweigh what must be a fairly small saving.

I think this year is going to be a good one, the teams seem to have finally taken on board just how much they need to up their game to compete for the championships.

I still think it’s MM’s for the taking though, if the other bikes/riders are competitive I think what makes MM dangerous which other don’t have is his consistency whether it be different weather, circuits or riding on the very edge without falling on race day.

Interesting comments about Quartararo, I was under the impression he had a '19 bike running 500rpm less for the first three quarters of last season so they could use one less engine over the season. I thought the initial plan was for him to use an older bike but during pre-season they changed that idea and gave him a 19 bike? Not sure why Morbidelli is being given a "19 with bells on" bike for next year, seems a backward step for all concerned.

Combined times are interesting: https://motomatters.com/results/2020/02/09/sepang_... Obviously have to expect MM93 to move to the top once he feels better, Alex Rins is looking threatening, Avintia bikes look like they will be lucky to score points this season.

Moving away from the fastest individual laps, Maverick was said to have the best race run of the test. Aleix was quick on long run too.

Fabio has some long run pace to find.
Vale was quite happy with what he found.
Marc is a little concerned...but he's an alien so...

Sorry for late reply, busy time.

The chassis he started on was not a '19, or an '18 even. When he was 'upgraded' through the season last year, that seemed like a logical move from the outside, as he was going so well.

Imagine if the motive could have been Yamaha actually needed his old chassis back so they could analyse it and work out why it didn't have some of the problems that the current ones had.....

wink

Marc never comes across positive in testing, I genuinely think it’s tactics so as not to give anything away. Come race weekend he’ll have suddenly found a heap of time.
