How does the MOT system work with a written off but repaired car ?
A dealer for example has a car for sale which is Cat S, he has repaired it and is now offering it for sale.
The GOV web site shows a valid MOT for the car but when getting an insurance quote the Insurance company shows the car as NOT having a valid MOT.
As I understand it, when the car was declared a write off the Insurance company will have destroyed the V5 document so after repair someone will have to use form V62 to get a new one, presumably that would normally be the dealer as no one is going to buy or be able to tax the car without a V5.
Is the new V5 just a case of submitting V62 and 25 quid or does the car need any sort of formal inspection ?
What seems a puzzle is the existing MOT is considered invalid by the insurance company but is shown as valid on the GOV web site. Telephoning DVLA gets various recorded messages depending on what menu option you choose, sending an email gets an automated response indicating they will have a go at replying with in 10 days or so.
Is there a definitive way of determining the official status of a CAT S vehicle ?
