As part of my overhaul of the rear subframe and underside, I’m going to replace a number of components, one of which is the ARB droplinks.

Anyone know if these are generic Ford/Volvo bits or AM specific ?

Why do you want to replace your droplinks?

Stripping out everything underneath and for th cost of them I might as well replace whilst it’s all apart.

The car has done 30,000 miles so they’ll have some wear.

I've just done my rears, got them from scuderia parts and they were £19 each

JonnyCJ, i'm going to do the same this summer, but i've decided i'm not going to remove the subframe, but to paint it in situ.

I'll remove the rear wheel arches to get better access and while i'm at it i'll remove the anti roll bar as that has some corrosion now and replace the drop links.

The driveshafts have a little too but i'm not going to remove them.

Hi Jonny-
About to replace my drop links in the front as I’m getting a clunking sound over bumps that I’m hopeful this will rectify. At 48k miles they are probably worn anyways.

Were you able to find any guidance in terms of how to replace them out?

Thanks!

Went with stock AM on the rears.

I haven’t addressed the front yet !

Just got a set from Scudiera. Seemed like a reasonable ie 'normal' price, which was a nice change. 😆

I also went with OEM from Scuderia and agree on price!

@Jonny-
I’m thinking your changing out of the rears is similar to the front. Do you have any guidance or anything you followed on the steps to take in successfully changing them out?

Lift the front or the rear of the car both sides depending on which drop links you are replacing to eliminate stress across the roll bar.

Undo the nuts holding the links to the suspension arm and bar, noting the orientation of the nuts and washers.

Remove links. Refitting is the reverse. No requirement to preload as the links are balljoint ended.

You only need to preload bushes.

Thank you 8Tech. Parts just arrived and I’m going to attempt it tomorrow while in self quarantine!

In case there is anyone else looking to change out the links it is unfortunately not as simple as outlined above. To provide access/room to remove the link, it looks like the lower strut needs to be removed so that you can angle the strut away from the link to provide enough space to pull out and refit the link. Unfortunately it will also most likely require me to move the brakes so that I can slide the lower strut back in afterwards.

All of this being said I have the nitron strut/coilovers fitted so perhaps the OEM are thinner and thus provide enough room without removal of the bottom of the strut.

Took my rear drop links off before removing the struts. I’m on Sport Pack Bilsteins.

That’s a great point that I should have clarified. For the rears the drop links are positioned away from the struts and there is room to pull out.

It is the front drop links that I am replacing and it is the top part of the link that gets in the way of the strut.

Pics if you don’t mind !

For those that haven’t been under there it helps to visualise the issue.

Cheers

Here is a picture of the old front ARB link. I had already removed the lower bolt to the shock to provide room to pull the top bolt out of the ARB link.

Here is the new link before tightening up. Even though the workshop manual showed the washer going on the nut side for the bottom of the link, in speaking with a knowledgable AM master tech who said they all put the washers now on the inside. Pretty straightforward job. Unfortunately I still have the clunk sound, but given my car is 15 years old I was ok with replacing our the old rubber bushings and links.

Thanks Bruce - will use double washers I think on the rears when I get back to re-assembly.
