Cancelling GT4 allocation
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a GT4 allocation that will lock in a couple of weeks. I’m thinking of cancelling to get an Exige 410. The logic is that I only do a few thousand miles a year, and would like something with more of a track focus. Great though it undoubtedly is, the GT4 does not have the focus on an Exige. But then, it does not have the shonky build quality and Toyota engine either.
I think both will depreciate a similar amount though the Exige is £20k less to start with.
Am I mad?

If you’re going to regularly drive the car hard and do a lot of miles on track and have specced yours with the clubsport pack and harnesses I’d stick with it. A durable track tool.
Have you had a go in the 410? If not, have a go as exiges are not for everyone. Just my own preference is towards the Gt4 as 1) me plus helmet doesn’t fit the lotus (and I’m only 6’1), and 2) although both are mid-engined i prefer the way Porsches balance and front end setup, and 3) I much prefer revs over torque

I’m going to drive one this morning and will take my helmet. I might also pop to the OPC to see if I can sit in a GT4 to rekindle the love as the general attitude that I’m lucky they will take my £100k is putting me off as well.
Interestingly no one has asked for my slot, but I don’t think that’s possible anyway. If I go for the Lotus I’ll just cancel it. Seems the right approach.

I think the arrival of the GTS 4.0 has put a spanner in the works for the GT4, people were desperate for a na 6 and thought the only option was the GT4 or sypder then along comes the GTS , 100% chance of getting one and cheaper.Interestingly no one has asked for my slot, but I don’t think that’s possible anyway. I had an Exige V6S a few years back. You really should go and drive one as it's as much about personal preference as anything else.
Half of the mileage I put on mine was from dealer visits for things rectifying. Seriously. They may have improved these days, but I won't be in any rush to find out..
I realise all cars have their issues but It was a huge relief to get back into a Porsche.

Cheaper to buy but not to own...GT4 is what £10k more ? Three years down the line that difference will be much more than £10k.Cheib said:

they will stop making Exiges soon, you can get £15k off any way. So if you buy at sub £65k you are not going to loose much imho.If you want new and pay £79k(wit hthe discounts) then yes over 2 years will be £15k to own.
You wont see 410 in the £50's in 2 years.
no one know the market value of GT4 yet for the 718 but the 981 will also be in the £50's this year and stable off at £59k imho.
buying a 981 now at £65k and modding one of those is the cheapest option for the fastest car and the less loss of £££
but the 410 feels much more of an event and is far more exciting.

I suppose so, but to keep the value in it you'd have to keep the mileage down? Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
