Not into world politics, but with the latest virus outbreak, at what point are more sanctions/rules going to be put in place for a country that:-

- Is the most polluting country in the world - I think?
- Has now been responsible for the release of two world viruses in the last 17 years?

Just my take.

On the positive side, they do make a great takeaway..... smile

The odds are against them on the viral side, with such a big population and a lot of relative poverty with poor animal welfare and hygiene standards in places.
Feels like they'd be being singled out unfairly on both counts and to suit the agenda of other nations.

Indeed they do, which animal it is this week, who knows!

Just frustrates me that as a world superpower, the level of complacency they are still allowed to have seems beyond belief.

One of the benefits of being a nuclear-equipped world superpower with 2 million in the armed services is that they ultimately don't give a stuff what you think.

Can’t help but feel like that is no excuse. They are one of the richest countries behind the U.S. and they need to self regulate far better than they already are. But is everyone just scared to put that pressure on because of the sheer reliance on the outputs at no real moral cost.

WHAT ! ? they released their virus ?
Time for you to get some of those tinfoil face masks, remember to seal them tight over both nose and mouth.

No thanks. Not a place I’d visit anyway. So the virus came from elsewhere? Where did it come from?

Current best guess is that the source of human-animal infection is a Pangolin. Whether it was a domestic or imported Pangolin - maybe from Africa or elsewhere in South East Asia - remains to be seen.

Obviously, the jump from animals to humans can be put down to the Chinese predilection for snacking on a bit of armoured mammal.

I probably have......😚 but by they......my meaning was their poor don’t give a two hoots standards contribute to these ‘occuring’ in the first place, in-line with continuing to be the most polluting country as they still don’t give two hoots.

They are the most polluting because we and others keep buying their stuff.

Stop buying and they will stop polluting.

On a side note, they have (and are) making great efforts to reduce pollution. It’s going to take a while but will be a whole lot quicker if we stop buying stuff.

as most countries become more middle class they start to care more about the enviroment. Not sure how stopping buying their st will accelerate that! (Although I agree we're massive hypocrites but how far down that rabbit hole do we go, pretending all the st China makes for us doesn't count for our co2 etc)

My take.
Yeah, sanction every huge container from China coming to the UK daily.
Without the Big C you probably wouldn't have half or even more of the things you own! Have a look at the labels inside your clothes, your shoes, don't even look at your mobile! Your 'china' LOL cup you're drinking from or even the 'plastic' collapsible one, your computer monitor your tv you watch... I'm fed up now, the list is too endless to continue.

People who go on and on about it being polluting and its viruses, and of course, Chinese tat, a lot of what China contributes and make is far from tat. They can build hospitals in days whereas it takes us years to sit round a table to even make a decision!

When we had floods 'oop north' we can hardly repair a bridge or plan a re-route. We can't even fill in potholes! They can repair a collapsed sinkhole 'road' in hours!
China, they can also build bridges (in more than one sense) in what would take us years.

Wonderful country to visit, and its people. Yeah, it has its downsides. Poor and rich alike. Tell me somewhere in the world that doesn't?
Once upon a time (that's a good way to start a sentence), Germany and its engineering was the envy (and a problem!) for the World, but the Wernher von Braun age is well past. The Chinese have that mantle now. Chinese tat? Ha ha ha.

Asian efficiency does make a mockery of the joke here and some other western countries. When I worked in Tokyo we had a track fire which closed the station during rush hour...now, how many hours would that mean closure, investigation, general fking about to get it sorted here vs the 12 minutes it took engineers in Tokyo to get there, sort it, fix it, clear it and open the station again.

Anyhow who are we to talk? Hardly the good guys are we? War criminals running countries after illegally invading countries in the middle east so on and so forth. Amazing what a great job the media rhetoric does in western countries to convince people living here how we are the goodies and everyone else are the baddies, laughable really that people fall for it.

They're such big polluters because they make most of the crap we endlessly buy and use. If we didn't buy, they wouldn't pollute. If the UN had any sense they'd put sanctions on us.

It’s certainly a wake up call that they need to up their game a bit in terms of animal and food hygiene after this. And ruined another trip to Singapore for me.

Just because we buy, doesn’t give the excuse for them not to set some standards. Guess it’s about morals, both on ours and their part.

Also when they set their standards properly, that will drive up prices which I’m fine with if it means less pollution and some decent hygiene standards

Will then also mean that competition for producing and selling goods becomes more equal.
