Thailand shooting: Soldier kills 20 in gun rampage https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-51427301

A soldier has killed 20 people and injured dozens more in a gun rampage in the Thai city of Nakhon Ratchasima.

Jakraphanth Thomma, a junior officer, killed his commanding officer before stealing weapons from a military camp, a defence spokesman told BBC Thai.

The suspect then drove to the city centre and entered a shopping complex, where he is believed to be holed up.

The suspect, whose motives remain unclear, posted images of his attack on social media sites

"A police officer contacted by phone in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima said the soldier initially shot dead another soldier and a woman and wounded a third person, apparently over a land dispute"

Blokes a total knob. Claiming he is fighting against corruption - but murdering people riding scooters and low paid staff...

I can sort of understand (without justifying) a desire to fight agains the injustice and corruption. But he wasn't going after the generals or the super rich who steal from the poor (and in Thailand that does happen), he went after the easy targets.

I reckon the RTA have a lot to answer for... How can someone walk of a camp with a load of weapons. I lived in Thailand so know what goes on - but it's ridiculous that it could happen.

the story i read on thai social media was that he had paid a bride to be promoted (which is pretty normal) but then never got his promotion. Something a long them lines.

I clicked on a video on youtube earlier which was a guy checking the people lying on the street dead, was like a video of liveleak.com with lots of blood. obviously youtube hadnt taken it down yet. pretty horrible.

Given where you lived, you may have seen Thai media reports that claim he did do something about the corruption in higher ranks initially, as the first person he shot was a senior officer who had allegedly defrauded him over a loan for housing (apparently 400,000 THB or thereabouts). The accounts I've seen claimed that he snapped after confronting the senior officer, who basically said there was no way he'd give any money back, then added 'so sue me'. When there was no prospect of help from anywhere else, the senior officer was shot. After that the appalling aftermath followed, with the implications you rightly mention above.
