I bought a car part on ebay a couple of weeks ago, it didn't turn up when expected then when I tracked it it hadn't even been posted yet. I sent a message via ebay and although the seller didn't reply, a few days later I received a notification that it had now been sent.
It was due again a few days ago so I tracked it again only to find that Hermes has tried to deliver it (they hadn't) one day then said they delivered it the following day (they didn't).
I tried going through Hermes but they had "proof" that it had been delivered to my porch. I don't have a porch, was in all day, the photo of the delivered parcel was not at my address, but as far as they were concerned they would have no further contact with me and I had to contact the seller.
I contacted the seller via ebay and again they did not reply but today I got messages via Paypal and Ebay saying that the seller had given me a refund.
Tonight I got a visit from a neighbour who had returned home to find my parcel in their house so they brought it round.
Pretty poor service and communication but I at least have my item now.
I've tried to work out how to reverse the refund to pay for the item but I can't find that option on ebay as they have now closed the case. Any ideas?

Corporate or personal seller? If the latter, just ask for their bank details, and transfer them the amount you paid. Might save them a couple of quid in fees. If the former, ask them, as the above may cause accounts issues.

Message the seller and ask them what they wish to do.

It's a business seller, but I think it's pretty small scale, selling second hand car parts. I've messaged them but on past performance they've had pretty poor communication. Maybe this time they'll be a bit more enthusiastic since i'm trying to give them money.

Ask for his e-mail address and send him the money direct.

If he doesn't reply then you can walk away with a clear conscience.

If you send the money directly you will lose any eBay PayPal protection if there turns out to be any issues with the parts.

The seller does deserve to be paid. He's just the victim of a poor courier. Good to see the OP being honest too as many wouldn't own up to this situation.

The seller got in touch this morning, thanked me for being honest and sent me a Paypal request for payment. I've paid it now, everyone happy.
Hopefully the seller will reconsider sending via Hermes in future or at least give the buyer a choice. If I'd known they used Hermes I probably wouldn't have bought from them in the first place.

Good news.

I've used Hermes hundreds of times with the only issue being one damaged jiffy bag, so I think you were the victim of a poor delivery man.

I don't think the pretty decent Hermes delivery lady in our neck of the woods would like your description biglaugh
Slightly OT but why do yokels keep asking on FB for the delivery drivers number rolleyes apart from driving and rushing about why would they want to answer up to 100 phone calls from random idiots asking where their parcel is rolleyes

I agree after a number of bad Hermes experiences I would avoid any seller who said they used Hermes, it's a shame people and companies supplying or selling a product don't have to disclose who they use for delivery.
