Hi

We are planning a trip to see my brother in Swansea and want to take the i3S from Surrey.

Both Zapmap and ABRP apps seem to want to take me off the M4 to 'local' chargers, rather than services on the M4 which is my usual route.

Are our motorway service stations so poorly served with decent chargers?

Does anyone out there use any of the M4 services for regular charging?

What car do you have?

The motorway services are mostly Ecotricity Electric Highway. They are decently reliable for CHAdeMO if you have a Leaf, if not then CCS can be a bit hit and miss.

My advice would be to try them but have a backup plan. Also note that they are all 50kW.

Get the Ecotricity app for your phone and use those at the service areas, or find an Instavolt charger (newer tech and v.reliable also contactless payment) just off the motorway usually at a hotel or sports centre.

Thanks for your replies, that really helps.

What also helps is that my zapmap app is now working properly so has started showing more options😁

I like the WattsUp app - shows logos of the different chains of chargers on and just off your route so makes it easier to see at a glance what there is

There are plenty of polar 50kW around Bristol and Cardiff.
Look to charge at your destination if possible too.

Thanks all

The WattsUp app looks great!

Luckily I can charge the car on a 3-pin plug when I get to my Brother's house
