Elderly mum has a tv in the bedroom. Fantastic internet speed but no aerial or satellite points.

Isn’t there a stick or anything I can plug in to get her freeview easily? Or even upgrade the tv?

I even downloaded the freeview play app on her iPad and went through the possibility of a chrome cast or something but then find out that just sends you off to the ITV hub app which you can cast live tv from!

Who’d have thought it would be so difficult to watch live tv from the internet on a tv?

Or am I missing something totally obvious?

Oh I have an old firestick knocking around. I didn’t know you could get live tv on it! Is there a single app to download or multiple? If multiple, I fear it’s going to be too difficult for her to fathom out

I guess it’s an 84 year old thing?

Thanks everyone. I’ll try those apps. Are the iPad apps or firestick apps?

She does have sky downstairs (Not Q). So if I upgraded her to Q does it allow another box to be connect upstairs on WiFi? Does this cost?

Or sky go? But I don’t think that allows casting

Sky go doesn’t allow casting at all.

Sky Q mini box would solve the problem as it operates on its own mesh network ... think it’s £10mth

I've got a rubbish communal aerial so can't get get Freeview as well as Virgin.

Took a punt on a cheap flat panel indoor digital TV aerial from Amazon. Get around 40 Freeview channels. Never expected it to work so well.

I don't have the answer, but have thought this myself recently whilst doing up our house. I've had to cable up 4 bedrooms and 2 rooms downstairs for TV, and then put an aerial in the loft.

Why can't this all be done away with and the tele's just work off the wifi (live tele)?

Have you checked signal strength in the area? That, and what's in the way of the transmitter should give you a good idea of how well that will work.

In my last house an indoor aerial gave us all (I assume, there were hundreds) of channels. This house isn't as good as it's hilly, but a coat hanger gets ten channels!

This might be a really silly question but do new TVs come with these things built in?

I might just upgrade her tv if so.

Definitely worth checking out indoor aerials - you may get lucky.

At ours, the TVs upstairs all run off indoor aerials with no problems at all.

Recently helped to move a TV at a nearby bungalow and none of the indoor aerials we tried were any good at the TV's new position. Move the TV a few feet either way, and it was fine. Ended up routing a new coax cable for that one.

If you use Amazon, Currys, Argos etc, you'll get a no quibble returns policy, should anything you buy not do the job.
