How cool would this be? I always found the Victor a more interesting aircraft than the Vulcan. Never knew much about the valiant, so can't really comment.
Would be a pity if it was cut up on site.

How can we have gone from having 3 different types of atomic bomber to needing the Chinese to help us out with the phones?
That is a most excellent question.....
On a related note. Enjoyed this bit of history earlier today: Lightning vs U-2 and Concorde! https://youtu.be/8DdUwIhI-ZA
The costs are astronomical. Painting alone to prevent rust is ridiculous.
I manage the hunter at RAF Waddington. We’re really struggling to stay on top of it. Bearing in mind we have a base full of engineers. It’s funded by the sqn (we pay a small subscription each week and have a sqn wall where you can add a brick with your name and sqn dates to help raise funds). I’m lucky in that I used to work with a guy who works for hunter aviation who still keep a few hunters flying.
I quite often trade him parts for expertise but I have been trying to find someone to paint the external tanks for 2 years. We’re talking 10k minimum just for that. I even reached out to a local automotive school to see if they would do it as a project. No luck so far. It’s getting to the point where I’m going to take a drill wire brush and some rattle cans just to keep it looking presentable.
It’s a shame. We had the cockpit fully refurbished about 10 years ago. Unfortunately the canopy leaks (seals are perished), can’t find any serviceable replacements. I had our safety equipment guys copy a canopy cover that hunter aviation lent me.
Anything for an aircraft Is generally 10x the price you think and it has to be maintained in according with the dataset for preservation. Our sqn own our aircraft so it doesn’t even receive station funding unlike the Vulcan.

At the risk of a whoosh parrot are we talking just the external fuel tanks here? As in the pointy drop tank type things under the wings? What colour do you want them doing? I paint classic cars and I can guarantee unless you want them painting in pure gold and ground chinchilla that I could paint them for a damn sight less than 10k. I'm not even that far from you either (my dad lives just round the corner at Branston).I manage the hunter at RAF Waddington. We’re really struggling to stay on top of it. Serious question from someone who works on cars but never on aircraft. I am guessing your Hunter, like the victor will never fly again. It was an aircraft, but is now a collection of metal parts in a rather sexy looking shape.I manage the hunter at RAF Waddington. We’re really struggling to stay on top of it. ...so why not use Hamerite or somesuch?? Am I right to assume you dont need CAA approval, and the preservation of the airframe is paramount?? Then use off the shelf materials to protect it. Waxoyl the box sections, hamerite the rest then overspray with the correst colour? It seems obvious to me, but ai wonder why not??

Unfortunately the aircraft is in a car park and right next to the airfield (the SATCO, senior air traffic control officer, would not allow me to have a paint bay erected around the plane and spraying during the week would probably result in paint all over cars parked around it). This would mean the tanks being removed (we don’t have tank dollies so I would have to borrow them for hunter aviation and transport them to waddington) to allow us to remove the tanks and then get them shipped to the spray bay.
Unfortunately as it’s on a RAF base we are subject to the station H&S bod and SATCO orders. If it was up to me I would just bodge the yanks off with some car jacks and wood. Alas it’s not that simple. Most of the expense is getting the tanks to be sprayed.
My only real option is to come in on a weekend when the car park is empty and do it with rattle cans. Even then the airfield is used by the flying club so I can’t erect a spray bay around the aircraft. I would have to wait for a flat calm day.
