22k a year, M5 and M4. 320d or 330d

So if you had to do 238m each way, once a week. up the M5 then along the M4, on a Sunday night and back on a Thursday evening.

would you do it in a 320d or a 330d? looking at E91?

anyone do a journey like this?

I read the thread title and though what sort of sane person who can consider a M5 or M4 would even look at a 320d..

Having spent plenty of time in both, I’d take the 330d every single time.

The extra power doesn’t really matter for motorway work but the 30d engine is soooo much nicer, more refined and resale value will likely be better too. My friends E92 330d auto is averaging 45mpg without much motorway driving and he doesn’t hang about.

I've been running a 520d for the last 13 months doing 178 each way twice a week, but it is A,B, dual carriage way and M way.

Now I'll be sat at cruise control and average cameras.

Plus I want a e91 or back to anE46.

And a flat 6 again

I've been running a 520d for the last 13 months doing 178 each way twice a week, but it is A,B, dual carriage way and M way.

Now I'll be sat at cruise control and average cameras.

Plus I want a e91 or back to anE46.

And a flat 6 again

Train uber expensive and can not guarantee leaving times, plus unreliable.

No airport in Plymouth.

I have an E91 330d manual and commute 90 miles a day, mostly M25, with an indicated 46mpg. I would avoid the 320d purely because of the timing chain issues with the N47.

Your main issue will be finding a decent 330d or the spec you want, there aren’t that many around.

I think you want a straight six, not a flat six. I used to do a similar journey A34, M4, A417 (?), and M5 every week for a few months. It is boring, so a boring car will do. No point in paying for an extra two cylinders IMO.

Train is £55 ish quid on Sunday Plymouth to London

The 320d has potential for timing chain issues at which point it makes the 330d a no brainer.
