Which "do everything" car

Hi all,
so I've asked this before however needs have changed a bit.
at the moment I have a ford focus as a company car - I hate it! yes it's cheap to run etc. But it doesn't really do anything great.... it's average across the board. The wifes XC60 on the other hand is about the most comfortable thing i've ever driven!
I'm thinking about giving back the company car and buying something I actually want.
But what do I want!!
I cycle as a hobby - which on occasions means I cart my bike to place to meet others or go on rides etc. I don't like to leave the bike on a rack as i'm worried whenever I want to leave the car then. So needs space inside, I can get mine in the focus with wheel off but would like to be able to take two bikes to make sharing rides to events easier.
We've also got a kiddie on the way so car needs to accommodate child stuff. Not necessarily with the bike of course.
We have a dog - and like to keep him in a secure cage, we've got a mimsafe one in the XC60 which is great.
Also, it'll be my daily driver I do 60-70 miles a day so at least 40mpg would be good of course, need to sacrifice some economy for the extra space.
Looked at S-Maxs, Galaxys, but didn't know if there was a better option.
in terms of space at one time, if the dog crate is in the boot then the bikes won't be - I can get a tow hitch bike carrier for the very odd occassion for taking bikes and dog crate and family all at once. That would be maybe twice a year for a trip to the peak district.
with two bikes, need at most three seats available.
Perhaps BMW X3 with internal bike rack.
Or just another XC60.....or XC90.....
too many options but what to do.

haha yes agreed. But hey, I at least want the illusion that I "could" go riding!
think is with an estate - I don't think i'd get the bike(s) in unless I took both wheels off which is a pain, I want to keep it upright really, happy to remove the front wheel just not both.

The Galaxy/S Max are hard to beat space wise (the S Max being the better steer out of the two) another Ford worth a look is the Edge they have lots of space & is a good do it all car.

Spec fit & finish wise the QX50 is nigh on impossible to beat apart from the fact you'll only see a real world 34-37mpg:

I can fit one bike in the back of my Octavia Hatchback with it's wheels on still, or both our bikes if I the take the front wheels off. So I wouldn't write off estates or even hatch backs so quickly.

Octavia vRS. Superb value for money, great all-round cars. Diesel will hit 50mpg on motorway runs...
Not the most exciting, but definitely best all-round car I've ever had and to this day regret selling. £15k will get you a decent, low-ish mileage mk3, preferably pre-facelift without the horrible split headlights.

Tarmac - Golf Estate, TDI & DSG.
cheap, practical, better performance numbers than an E-Type, space for kids and dogs, widely available parts.
remap, good tyres and Clubsport brakes if you want increased capability.
Mud - Defender 110 (Bowler variants are more fun)
