GTR to Claim 0-100-0 World Record?
Discussion
I've only recently become acquainted with the Ultima GTR and Can-Am. The performance, even with a fairly standard motor (350-400bhp) seems incredible
However, some of you are talking about motors producing 750bhp and more
How about showing the World what a real SUPERCAR can do and claim the 0-100-0 World Record from the Caterham R500?!?!
Any takers - CJ?!

It isn't just a case of monster power. It's also whether you can get it down on the road. Most of the higher power Ultimas will be able to hit monster high speeds, but the difference in 0-60 times between them and a milder engined car won't necessarily be very great.
The problem with the 0-100-0 record isn't just getting to 100, it's stopping again. In that case, a lot of power won't help you. You need light weight, and the optimum braking setup for the car.
I'd be very surprised if an Ultima could beat the McLaren F1 or Caterham. Pleased, but surprised

I recon I might go for it in mine... the cossie that is.
This is after a guy yesterday was telling me about his 2wd that does o-60in 2.8sec and 0-100 in 6.
Maybe I should try my Ultima on his timing gear, might be able to go back in time
As another point the 0-100-0 test is for a standard production car Mac F1, R500 etc. I am not aware of a standard production Ultima so we could never hold the title anyway.
I think a well speced Ultima should be able to beat the Mac F1 though. It will be decided in the braking.

I'm not convinced that an Ultima could beat the F1 as the 0-60 for the F1 is 6.2secs!
Ultima is at best about 8.0secs to my knowledge. I know the brakes are fantastic but...???
For a true measure of fast cars vist www.howfast.co.uk (top 25).
Once my car is complete I'm after a position in the top 25 at least, heres hoping...

You must mean 0-100, and if it does 0-100 in 6.2 sec then the brakes must be crap on the F1 as it then takes longer to get down from 100-0 than a subaru.
If an Ultima can do 0-100 in 7.5-8sec then it has to have incredable brakes to beat the 11.5sec (0-100-0 of mac F1).
I'm getting more intesrested in what an Ultima can do, maybe I will have a play with mine with a stop watch to see what ball park it is in.

I just had a quick blat in mine and the time from 60-100 is not that much slower than 0-60 (not timed though).
Given that my car can do 60 in 1st and 105 in 3rd thus only 1 gear change to 100 it might be in for a chance.
I doubt that I will be good enough on the brakes though.
Maybe we should have a go at Santa pod on Sunday.....Unofficially

Other sites with very fast cars (mostly 0-60 - my links are a bit thin on 0-100-0)
www.superfastcars.kit.net/eng/index.html and www.geocities.com/aaauto.geo/newpage/english/index_eng.html (related I think)
www.universalauto.com/speedtimes.html
www.fast-autos.net/0to60.html & www.fast-autos.net/14mile.html
and the maddest site I've found yet with some truely bonker cars....
www.exvitermini.com/ (mad aussie who thinks 1000bhp in a jap hatchback is a cracking idea! Some of the videos are just silly!)
Still - whatever - the Ultima is just one dam fast car and driven right I am sure could give the R500 0-100-0 a good run for its money....

Depends on the brakes. My Mk4 Sport has some pretty good stoppers on it, and it only weighs 950Kg (including 100 litres of fuel), so I should be able to get the 100-0 bit pretty quick if I do it with an empty tank.
All I need is the 0-100 as well

I'm getting confused here. Any chance that the posters of these messages could go back and check whether they meant "0-100" or "0-100-0" in their messages and possibly edit / correct them, because there seems to be a lot of confusion here.
Well, for Mr. Jon "Thicky" RB here at least.

Just to staighten out a few facts .....
The Macca F1 0-100 time of 6.3 secs was a one off attempt carried out by Autocar and is the only 'official' timing ever carried out on the production car!
The 0-100-0 figure for the F1 was done in an F1LM, a road legalised version of the (customer/homogilation sp?) Le Mans cars. Driven by Andy Wallace! Probably with different gearing to the road car, so maybe unable to match the originals 0-100 time.
Even a stripped out Ultima (if possible!) is not going to weigh less the about 850kgs. A Caterham R500 weighs in at about 450kgs. It is this factor that hands the R500 a huge advantage. You could put the biggest, meanest fcukoff brakes you can find fitted with all the electronic gizmos invented. It would still take an awful long time to bring 850kgs to a halt compared to 450kgs. It's called inertia. You can't change the laws of physics. This is after the problems you would have launching the car!
The Jag F1 (600kgs) car stopped from 100-0 in 1.68 seconds, this is partly due to having carbon brakes and very sticky grooved slicks. The biggest advantage was the downforce, the effect at 100mph was to double the cars weight, meaning the tyres had huge grip at this speed. But even an F1 car struggled when the speed decreased due to the advantage becoming less as the speed decreased. An Ultima would have no such advantage, even with big wings, it's the wrong shape!
So, sorry folks, as good as an Ultima is, it ain't in with much of a chance in beating the 0-100-0 world record. I reakon a time of 13 secs would be about the best it could manage.
As for the Tiger Z100wr ..... I believe the factory car that set the 0-60 time world record of 2.7 something seconds has been sold and probably not available.

Hi Everyone
It's been facinating to read the debate about 0-100-0 times and the technicalities of beating the R500
I've just checked the times of the group of cars that attempted the run at the same time as the Record Breaking R500 (www.r500.com)
It's interesting that the Pagani C12S was a very close 2nd with 11.84secs
compared to the R500's 11.44secs
Interestingly, the Pagani's spec makes very interestng reading: 550bhp 553 ft-lb Dry Weight 1250Kg 0-60 3.7sec (claimed) Brakes f: 355 (14in) 4-pot r: 325 (14in) 4-pot (www.paganizonda.com)
Perhaps the Ultima can claim the Ultimate World Record after all...
Thoughts?

lf someone will kindly buy me a 1000 bhp engine, l will stick it in my car and take the record for you all. Just so long as l get to keep the engine. l will even throw in the cost of the bigger brakes.
I can save the cost of the big brakes, as I already have them, and my little car is lighter than these lardy GTR's, so it'll make better use of the 1000BHP
