Does anyone else here use Apple express on the Tube in London and how reliable is it?
I use it on an iPhone X and it seems to fail more often than work, to the point I’ve gone back to using a contactless card in preference.

Assuming this is Apple pay ... if so I’m the same. Got fed of being tutted at and slowing the movement through the barriers so have also reverted to regular contactless

As above, assume you mean Apple Pay?

Use it when I am down in the big smoke, never had any issues.

I use Apple Pay on the tube. The trick is to have double clicked and authorised it (Touch ID or Face ID) as you approach the barriers. It's never failed me or caused any hold ups when I do that.

Apple Express is in theory supposed to eliminate the need to authorise the payment or open the wallet app first - I've tried it a few times in 'un-busy' places, and it's worked the grand total of once for me.....I've checked the settings etc, all, enabled, it just always fails until I use it the 'traditional' way.

Use it 4+ times a day, I'd say 1 in 50 uses results in me being tutted at.

Yes I was referring more to the Apple Express method rather than traditional Apple Pay.
Apple Pay is generally reliable whereas Express is in my opinion a failure.

Ah I see. To be fair I always use my Apple watch. Just double click the side button and tap it on the reader. Never really had an issue.

I may be being thick here but what is Apple Express - there is no differentiation between Apple Pay on the iPhone and the watch?? Google turns up nothing but airport express???

They call it 'Express Transit' in its entirety.

Use Apple Pay for 2 journeys (4 taps) each day, no problem whatsoever. Recently switched to Express and it works brilliantly thus far.

I use my Apple Watch for payments all the time and the TfL barriers are the ONLY thing it ever fails on.

It goes through at the second/third/ forth time of asking, but by then the tutting has usually started!

I've reverted to using my Amex card which goes through first time every time.

This has happened on my old series 4 as well as my current series 5, so I don't suspect a problem with the watch itself.

Phone not a watch but this is exactly my findings, sometimes it works perfectly, others three or four goes before it works.
