I just got my ticket today and will be looking for work.

What advice would you give yourself if you were just starting out?

Ideally i would like to start off doing some compound work so i am not being shouted at by all and sundry demanding bricks/tiles/whatever as i properly get used to the machine, rather than learn how to pass the test.

Any advice appreciated!

I would look at things like builders Merchants or maybe things like recycling plants, concrete or asphalt plants.

One word of caution not all companies will recognise your "ticket" whatever it is.

Good Luck

That is a good shout, thanks smile

To be honest i would be happy working for peanuts for a few weeks, I would just consider it paid training!

Are you npors or cpcs

Did you get your suspended load as well?

Me personally I would get as much work as you can, be comfortable getting out of the cab and looking at the ground your working on, angles for approaches to landing decks etc

Get to site early, do practice lifts to tops of scaffolding etc, note down you boom angle and extension, stick a cone where your inside wheel is to give you something to aim for.

I went for CPCS, but i haven't got the suspended load add on. I assume the training for that is the same as normal apart from things are hanging so you need to be more aware of wind and the load moving around in general so you shouldnt get as near to the limits of the machine? But, no i didnt get that bit.

It covers you for any lifting attachments, ie if you need to use a slug to lift a load.

Did you cover anything on lift plans?

I have blank ones if you want to look over any.

I’ve been operating them for 15 years and instructing for 4 if you have any questions pal

How did this go?
Appreciate current crisis has maybe screwed things up

Been thinking about a change myself, what did it cost you to get the ticket?

Thanks

I guess that its not a great time for any work right now.
I may ask you the same question again in a few months.

Good luck, hope it improves soon.

I've worked in construction hire for 20years now. The way you will get regular work is dropping off your card at plant hire companies who specialize in operated plant.
If a building sites own men aren't trained in operating they struggle to find outside labour in this field.
What part of the country are you in?
