Hi request an opinion
have had 5 911's
now in a 2010 boxter 2.9 manual which is an absolute joy
been offered a 996 02 plate with a hartech rebuilt engine on a tiptronic box (in terms of money - not an issue)
don't know if I want to do the switch as the manual is wow and I recall the only other tip box I had a bit boring
any opinions welcome

You're going from a well developed & modern looking & relatively reliable drivers car to a nearly 20 year old, less reliable car with an unpopular gearbox. I know you say it has been Harteched but it depends what was done & when. An 18 year old 911 can give you bill after bill after bill.
I would take one for a decent drive at least the tip is not a well regarded box as reflected in residuals

Think you would regret it. Would you even give it a second thought if it wasn't for the Hartech link.
The car will still drive the same Hartech engine or not. Not a step up or even a side step imo!

It wouldn’t interest me I have to say. The 987.2 is a very well sorted, last of the analogue cars and in my opinion far more fun to drive than any 996 short of a GT3, and that would be true even if the 996 had a manual box. With a tip, I think you would seriously regret it.

The Tiptronic box belongs in a sports car like a pork chop belongs in a synagogue. I’ve driven a few 911s with it and I’d avoid them like the plague. My ex had a 997 with a Tiptronic box – when it was swapped for a gen 2 with PDK the difference was night and day.
