Average value of new car sold in the UK - £28k
Average value of used car sold in the UK - £13k
Average age of cars on the road in the UK 7.7 years.

Therefore my wife's BMW 520d MY2012 with a value of around £8k is probably close to the real average.

• i imagine the used car average value is from dealerships, eBay and Autotrader sales, add in gumtree and pub car parks and the number will be lower. If the average new car is £25k, the same car at 7.7 years old is likely to be worth about £6k.
