Waiting for the weather to brighten up before whipping out the rotary and giving my car a good detailing.
Looking for some long lasting protection after I do so, I’ve tried a variety of waxes and sealants and with the car being kept outside they rarely last longer than a month..
I’ve noticed there’s a few cheap options for DIY ceramic coatings.
In particular - cquartz, auto finesse etc..

Been reading threads on here and detailing world but just can’t make my mind up on whether to try one of these cheap ceramic kits or maybe yet another sealant like fusso f7 as I’ve read good things about it.

Any advice here on the cheap ceramics? Any good?

Car is kept outside by the way and I do not have a garage

I've tried Collinite 247 wax, Meguiars carnauba wax, meguiars hybrid ceramic wax, Autoglym HD wax and Autoglym EGP sealant

They all offer great beading and protection but just don't last as long as i'd hope. Wanted something to last a lot longer

Will be watching this thread with interest.

Im seeking a cheap / half good ceramic coating. Also would be interested to hear how others applied it, and whether it lasts

Cquartz do a good one that you can apply yourself at home - Cquartz Lite

Gyeon Cancoat or the Cquartz would be a good option if you are looking for something that will last 6-12 Months

If you have an indoor place to apply a coating so you can let it cure properly etc. then don't see why you wouldn't give it a try.

I don't have that luxury so it's on the driveway on a decent day for me so I tend to stick with sealants and waxes. As mentioned a decent wax should last 6 months or more.

I applied Britemax Extreme Elements sealant to my S Class and for speeds sake, topped up with Meguiars Hybrid Cermamic wax, which should tide me over until spring now.

Ultimately, I'd like it to have to coats of the Britemax sealant and then a layer of wax on top of that. I really like Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid although not cheap stuff. Even two coats of Collinite 476 or 845 will last ages.

Gtechniq C1 is very, very easy to use for anyone with an ounce of common sense and will outlast things like the autofinesse product that is available in halfords.

Cheers,

How long do ceramic coverings last for ? Should I wax the car first ? Once applied do I still wax the car or does the wax remove it ?

Is this a sealant rather than a ceramic coating?

I would trust Jim’s opinion on this - might be worth a look, and don’t forget to use the discount code.

ETA: go to about 9 minutes 10 secs for the ceramic product chat.

I don’t currently have easy access to covered storage for contamination-free application and curing, so won’t be going down that route myself. However, I have bought the new Turtle Wax ceramic series products, wash, polish and spray coating. I have only had chance to use the wash so far due to weather. 2 weeks ago, washed our very unprotected cars with this relatively sudsless wash mix. Didn’t hold a lot of hope, but the rinse was amazing... the car dried itself with the hose!

2 weeks later, being parked right on the sea edge through 2 salty weekend storms with (Ciara and Dennis) and the cars are still sheeting and beading like a goodun. And that is just the wash product! I have just done a highly traffic filmed 500mile run in the Freelander, so looking forward to seeing how much easier the dirt is to remove on a pre wash this weekend - weather permitting... it was really hanging on before the ceramic wash and needed some heavy persuasion to leave the paint.

Waiting for it to warm up a bit. Will be doing a single stage with the ceramic polish on the missus Merc and maybe a megs 101 followed by TW ceramic polish on the recently acquired Freelander 2, which requires a bit more correction. Then the bit I am looking forward to, applying the spray coating (rumoured to be the star of the range) which has reports of good durability as well as performance.

Looks like the TW name is reviving with these new ceramic products.
