Morning all, firstly excuse my lack of tech knowledge here! I have got a Oneplus 5 android phone on O2 which is now 2 1/2 years old and starting to be a little flaky in some areas. I want to stick with Android but will again buy the handset outright. I have always used the staff in the shop to do the transfer of apps/data etc from old phone to new, but I am looking at either a OnePlus 7T Pro or Pixel 4XL and as such will be buying the handset online and will have to do the swapping of info myself. I know Google does a backup, but will this include all the apps I have installed and paid for? Cheers in advance.

Depends how you've set your phone up: if contacts etc are saved to your Google account, they will be synced to your new device as well. Same with photos if you use Google photos to sync, etc.

In the backup section on my phone, it does say that the backups are to Google Drive. Just can't seem to locate the backup on Google Drive itself.

Google Play Store will recognise the apps you've installed and bought.

Fire up Google Play Store, click the menu button (top left), select "My apps & games". The list in the Library will be available on the new phone.

1. Don't get rid of the old phone till you are completely happy that the new one is setup
2. Most new phones are clever enough to speak to the old one and transfer data directly. Expect your new one will just lift the data you want.
3. Just log on to your google account on your new phone and it will offer you to download the latest data that you have backed up

It all works quite seamlessly and as long as you don't get rid of your old phone, you can't go wrong as u can always set up a new backup if you find you weren't doing a good backup to date.

Good luck - should be easy.

Many thanks for the replies. I would have thought it were all pretty straightforward, as the backup is set to Google Drive on my phone. I will hang on to the current handset until I am happy with it all then. Cheers again!

That could work well. Just not 100% decided on the new handset yet. My Oneplus has been superb though so I see no real reason not to go down the Oneplus route again.

I have a oneplus 5 too, awesome phone, keep thinking about changing to OP7 for the extra screen (and no notch, punch hole etc) but should keep the 5 really as it does everything I ask of it.

I have to say, my OP5 has been superb too. I previously had Apple phones and was hesitant about the move to Android, but this has been superb. Love the way you can customise so much more. The only thing I have noticed with my OP5 is certain apps (and in particular BBC Sounds) just won't run any more. I have tried re-installing the app but with no joy.

I can't say I have had any issues with apps not working, the occasional glitch but a reboot was usually enough. I will try the BBC sounds app and see if I have the same problem.

That would be good, as I have uninstalled/reinstalled about 8 times now and it just freezes, coming up with the message "go to downloads". I have tried it on wifi &4G to see if it was one of those that was the issue, but still no joy. The phone is up to date with updates and there is nothing reported on the BBC website to issues.

BBC sounds seems to be OK for me. A real ballache but have you tried going back to factory settings?

Ah right ok, so it would seem to be my phone. I haven't done a factory reset thingy as yet. I guess I would then have to reinstate everything from the Google Drive backup?

Also just noticed that my battery charge has dropped much quicker than usual. Was at 100% at 8am, now at 34% with very little use indeed. Something isn't right methinks!

Beware the OnePlus 6T onwards has no notification light.

And whilst it is incredible value at about £300 refurbished, the lack of the blinking LED is some drawback.

But I've learned to manage without

The OnePlus Switch app is very good, on top of android Google reinstall

Ah right, shame that. It is a useful little thing that.

Rogue app? That's not right, my battery with light use last 2+ days.

Just had a look at the usage figures and there isn't anything that is registering as bonkers, but I shall have a look at the most recently installed apps to see if there is anything there. I would normally get 2 days also from the battery, even 2 and a bit years on.

Yeah ordered my OP5 on launch day and even now on very light use it has stretched into a 4th day (switched off overnight though)
