Wanted your broken 5AMs
Discussion
I have spoken to ATP who say they can refurb the Lucas 5AM airflow meters, but we need some faulty ones to get some stock. This has to be a better option than the Chinese copies, or the exorbitant cost of the few new Lucas units still in the system. Please let me know if you have any laying around to get the ball rolling.
Thanks

What sort of prices are they looking at for a refurb Mark ?
As you know I fit good used OE afms currently but if the refurb costs were sensible I might have a couple refurbished and put on the shelf but they would have to
1) be as reliable as a good used afm ie potentially give years of service and
2) look like new to justify any price premium over a normal good used unit otherwise I might as well just keep selling the good used units IYSWIM.

Anyone know what they would actually do to refurb one? All the 'gubbins' are potted into the casing correct? Do they fit new parts? How would they recalibrate one etc? Just curious how parts like this can get refurbed and what you are actually getting for your money. Are parts even available?
The guts are easy enough to work on once you remove the glued on cover, and its not exactly high tech inside, and op amp and a load of trim resistors. Calibration could be awkward- I had to use a petrol leaf blower to get it to a 5V output, but I bet if you know the hot wire resistance or current against temp you could calibrate far more easily than blowing a gale into it. ATP are having another look, I think they thought I wanted a 14CUX.
