Youngsters these days seem to have been flying since before they can remember, but most PH'ers an BP & T can probably remember the excitement of their first ever flight.

Mine:
BAC111 Luton to Paris, British Midland Airways. 1971.

Belfast to Palma when I was 7 years old. I only remember the Go Around caused by a runway incursion.

About 1978, air cadets, Beagle Husky at the Air Experience Flight, Cambridge. And, the aircraft is still around too.
Billy Butlin won it in a raffle, and with Hughie Green it was donated to the AEF. I think it was the only Husky to be on the RAF’s list.

1959 - DC3 (I believe - might have been a Rapide but I think they'd been phased out by then) Southampton to Jersey.

Obviously don't remember that one but the first flight I recall was a BEA Viscount - same route Southampton to Jersey when I was 4.

That route was a regular annual flight and always turboprop (aside from the DC3). My family weren't in to flying away so the first jet flight I took was LHR to Miami when I was 21. Obviously caught the bug as I spent the next 25 years spending far too much time flying to most corners of the world.

These days it's the occasional EZ flight to Europe although still doing the Dash flights to Jersey!

A sightseeing trip in a small high-wing craft (probably a Cessna) from Clacton Airport when I was about 8.

My first international flight was a Caravelle from Stansted to Palma, c.1974.

First ever flight, aged 5, 1970 TWA Boeing 707 to the USA. I still remember looking out the window and seeing the wings flapping (yes, really!).

Fiirst light aircraft, a Piper Super Cub, on the same trip at a gliding club in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

First seaplane, a Cessna on floats, we saw driving past a lake. We only had enough money for Mum, my brother and I to go up, so Dad had to watch from the shore.

First one I actually got to fly, aged 12, the Polish Air Force Association Scheibe Falke at Lasham. We just drove up for a look around, and my Dad spotted someone he knew who was about to take the Falke up, so he took me too. Great fun! The starter was a lawnmower type pullstart sticking out of the instrument panel.

~1995 Manchester to Salzburg, I was 14 years old for a school skiing trip, my over-riding memory was feeling the thrust as the plane accelerated down the runway on take off, I'd never felt anything like it.

1989 aged 4, went to Portugal, I remember eating opal fruits on the plane and is my earliest memory it was so exciting!

Hate flying now, just don't bother, last time on a plane was 2011 with BA to Pisa. It was such a miserable experience I honestly think it's put me off flying for life. frown

I think it was around 2003 we flew from Gatwick to Faro in Portugal on 'Go', it was very exciting.

Now I've travelled a lot with work I can safely say it's a bloody tedious way to travel. hehe

Flight to Rimini when I was about two in 1968.

Don't remember anything of the flight, but do remember playing in the street with an orange Fiat 500 toy I was bought. smile
