Being as I have a slight myserious lean on my car I'm considering a change of springs and dampers all round.

Are the spring rates actually marked on the springs somewhere? Whilst I know the ride on my car is much harder than other Wedges - a race set up as it has been described - I'd like to keep it as standard as possible to how I bought it - unless some of you have some ideas that is.

It was commented at last years BBWF that my car had about 1" more gap on the offside rear wheel arch. So I got into the drivers seat and asked "how does it look now"?

The factory markings are a line of paint down the spring with no apparent colour/rate consistency so I'd forget that. Have a read of www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=8&t=183730 it's for chimps but rates are similar. The only real way is to take the spring off and measure the free length and rate. 400f and 300r would be very hard IMHO but note V8S's comments re:dampers. Factory seemed to vary between about 140 and 220lbs/in. Spring rates, ride heights, bushes, dampers, rose joints, ARB stiffness, SEAC or not? All variables and could be a long debate. If it's for appearance bear in mind that the body (esp the spoiler) is probably not symmetrical.

I don't think you can apply experience with spring rates from the later cars to wedges. The front springs have a much worse leverage (plus some nasty twisting loads) and will behave completely differently. The rear suspension has similar leverage but suffers from poor geometry control which may mean you need to restrict the suspension travel (through increased spring rates) to limit the damage.

Basically if you are after wedge suspension settings you want to talk to people who have experience of setting wedges up - RT racing, Steve Heath or any of the other wedge sprinters or racers.

I had a similar problem with my car. Replacing all the shocks and springs made no difference?

Someone on here said to check out the rubber mountings between the body and chasis, up around the diff area somewhere? I haven't checked mine out yet. You need to check the hieght difference between the body and chassis. Not the body and floor as I had been doing.

Hope this helps?

Wee man.

Ah well -

seems mine is not that different from other cars after all. I've had people say to me - "look, it is what it is; just accept it for what it is and enjoy it - don't muck about with it trying to make it perfect!"

So maybe I'll leave it as it is.
