We have a 2012 Rav 4 (mk3) - its been very reliable over 5 years and my wife likes it - she is the main user. I find it uncomfortable on a long drive, but other than that no issues. It's closing in on 100k miles and err indoors thinks we should trade it uo.

looking for something 2017 or newer, less than 20k on the clock. budget 20-25k. Would prefer petrol and automatic and ideally would like to see AWD/4x4 but not an absolute deal breaker. approx 10k miles per year. Do a bit of towing (sailing dinghy) needs reasonable space in back for teenagers and camping gear, the rav4 is about the right size, but the newer ones seem to have grown in size and so not keen on these.

haven't got as far as test drives yet, just trying to compile short list

have looked at:
tiguan/karoq/ateca - would probably work prefer the looks of tiguan
BMW X1
Suzuki vitara - maybe a bit small
mazda CX5 - she no likey

Also considered

Citroen C5 aircross/ DS7 - wife not keen

jeep renagade/compass (renegade may be small like vitara)
hyundai Kona - felt a bit low rent inside

open to any further suggestions, or any insight into X1 or tiguan owning experience.

I was all set to click the button on a a leased E tron from work, but she thought it was too big

I find buying this type of car a bit un inspiring really, so open to suggesting from the collective - criteria probably rules out grand cherokee SRT...

TIA
