I'll shortly be needing a full set of new rubber on my BMW E39 540i touring. I need to try and claw back a bit of expenditure after some other unexpected maintenence costs, so have been looking at mid range tyres. I've more or less narrowed my choice down to Avon ZV7's, Uniroyal Rainsport 5 or Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetrics. Was tempted by the Avons, although they seem to get mixed reviews, particularly for wet grip, even though they are A rated. The Rainsports and the Goodyears seem pretty much neck and neck, albeit the Goodyears are slightly more expensive. Would be good to get some feedback from people who have used any or all of these three tyres. Thanks.

Out of that list,

Goodyear all the way, I'm currently running the ASY 5's and they've been fantastic in all conditions.

I've had the ZV7 on a number of normal cars used for piling the miles on (Avensis, Mondeo, C'eed). No complaints. They didn't wear fast, and seemed to get a decent amount of grip in most conditions. A "touring" tyre not a "sporty" tyre. That said, I wasn't putting the same power through them you would be.

Those Avons are rubbish, the RS are ok at best it is the Goodyear all day every day on a car with the power of the 540.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's the Goodyears then (had a feeling they'd be the best choice of the three).
