Oil around the cap V8V 4.7
Discussion
I was proceeding to clean the throttle body of my N420 and noticed there was some oil around the beautifully crafted oil tank. Clean it up, and checked the level, it was barely at minimum. I have not done the engine on/20 seconds at 2000 RPM/engine off, just checked from stone cold since I was somewhat in a hurry.
- is oil around the cap somewhat normal?
- AM Brussels put Petronas Syntium Motorsport 10W60 in it last time. If I would have to top up 1 litre or 2, should I put in the exact same oil or any other 10W60 will do?
- last service was on 17/04/2019, is it normal to have oil at this level as of today? Or should I try the 20 seconds procedure before doing anything?
Thank you, as I am quite the oil newbie honestly.

You need to follow the procedure for checking the oil otherwise the reading is not accurate, dont be tempted to fill up when cold just because you have had a quick look and its low, this is how you can end up with too much oil in. Its a dry sump, you need to check it warm.
The same weight/spec of oil will be fine for a top up.
It could be that the cap was a little loose maybe? obviously after checking properly, top up if required and keep an eye on it.
My first 4.3 Vantage used to use 1-2L in between services every 10k miles, but my current 4.7 does not seem to use as much....or perhaps its because im only doing 4-5k miles between services now, it never gets low enough for me to notice.

If it's only just touching the stick when cold it will probably be exactly right when you do the proper check procedure, mine is just touching the stick cold, bang on the full line after running 20 secs, waiting 10 secs and then wiping and dipping with cap screwed right in
As said above, don't add anything until you run the procedure
