Sky Q - can I use the box out of subscription?

Have had Sky Q now for 3 years and don’t tend to watch it but I love the box for its recording functionality

Sky have emailed to say they are putting prices up and I’ve been out of contract for a while now so considering cancelling and just watching free to air channels through the sky box

Can we do that and still record through the sky q box?

No you lose all the recording functionality etc. It'll basically just function like a freeview box.

Is there any decent freebies box that I don’t need an aerial for that have a decent record functionality along with Bluetooth remote so that the box can be concealed?
