Matching metallic black paint mercedes
Discussion
Hello everyone
Just recently got myself a Mercedes clc200 2009 colours is obsidian black. The car body work needs a bit of tlc most of the panels have chips etc.
I found a local guy to sort the bodywork out he has quoted me £500 to take out all dents
respray all of the passenger side front and back bumper
Drivers door
Cheap I know he works alone in a garage in a industrial estate
He has stated the paint won't need blending in as obsidian black is a easy match. I have asked him how he is going to source the paint as must be variations in the colour he said just by giving the company the paint code 192
My concern is that the paint won't match and I know there is quite a few variations with some car paints. Any advice???

The paint system I use shows Mercedes Obsidianschwarz as code 197.
I have formulations & chips for 4 different shades and a lot more 'specials' for which I don't have chips.
Your choice would be to take the car to a local motor factor that does paint & compare their colour chips for the best chip match OR to have the paint mixed as an eye match which would be the best option.

An eye match or one done with a spectrometer will be better than a chip match.
That said, absolute perfection so it can't be detected by the human eye in any lighting conditions would be a total respray using one batch of paint to do the whole vehicle.
No idea what his paint supplier charges but I do have a few done & the charge for an exact match usually come out around an extra £20 +VAT.
My factor now does the match then sends out a painted chip to be compared with the vehicle & approved by the end user i.e me. This avoids them being stuck with lots of mixed paint for the odd colour where it just doesn't work.
